ESSIC Research Associate Michael Folmer and Visiting Assistant Research Scientist Scott Rudlosky, recently presented at the NOAA Science Days Briefing in Silver Spring, Maryland.
NOAA Science Days was created as a vehicle to highlight recent NOAA work and to inform senior NOAA leadership of happenings in the agency.
The pair presented talks on two exciting new instruments that will be housed on the future GOES-R satellite.

Following a chilly start for early morning “set-up crews,” the University of Maryland College Park campus experienced near-perfect weather conditions for its annual community outreach event, Maryland Day.
According to Center event Co-coordinator Maureen Cribb, ESSIC welcomed both new visitors and return “followers” alike to the Center's storefront-like display at the entry to the Earth Science Tent.

The Baltimore Sun published a health-related feature in April 2013, which highlighted the results of a recently published study led by ESSIC Associate Research Scientist, Hongbin Yu.
The paper, authored by Yu and a team of NASA, UMBC, and UMCP scientists was published by Science Magazine in August 2012. The University of Maryland Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center served as the host institute for the third annual NOAA User Workshop on the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Mission. The 3-day workshop was held from April 2 to April 4, 2013, with roughly 50 participants from federal government, private sector, and academia in attendance.

As the University of Maryland preps for its annual "Maryland Day" celebration, ESSIC is putting the final touches on an exhibit that is sure to be an entertaining and interactive experience for the campus and community.
This will be the thirteenth year the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center will participate at the annual event and according to ESSIC's Maryland Day coordinator Maureen Cribb, the Center has much in store for its visitors.

ESSIC/AOSC Professor Raghu Murtugudde was enlisted in support of climate bill HB1134, that reached the State of Maryland House of Delegates Environmental Matters Committee on March 6, 2013.
Sponsored by Delegate Jeffrey D. Waldstreicher (D), HB1134 proposes the creation of a task force to both analyze and create solutions for reducing the impact of the heat island effect on the State.

ESSIC/AOSC Professor Zhanqing Li has been appointed to a 4-year term as an editor of the American Geophysical Union's Journal of Geophysical Research-Atmospheres (AGU JGR-Atmospheres).
It's a prestigious honor for Li, given JGR-Atmospheres standing as one of the most-highly cited research publications on climate change over the past decade. Li is certainly no stranger to JGR-Atmospheres itself, given his ranking as its currently most published author.

The University of Maryland Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC), will serve as the host institute for the Third International Workshop of the Global Flood Working Group.
