SUMMARY:The Global Land Surface Satellite (GLASS) Products Suite and Applications
DESCRIPTION:This event has passed. See the seminar recording here:\n\n \n\n\nProf. Shunlin Liang\nUniversity of Maryland, Geographical Sciences\nFriday November 30, 2018, 12:00-1:00 PM\nESSIC Conference Room 4102, 5825 University Research Ct, College Park, MD 20740\nAbstract:\nWe have recently developed and freely distributed the Global LAnd Surface Satellite (GLASS) products suite, such as leaf area index, fractional vegetation cover, broadband shortwave albedo and longwave emissivity, downward shortwave radiation, land surface temperature, longwave and all-wave net radiation, gross primary productivity, evapotranspiration, and so on. \nThe GLASS products have some unique features, for example, 1) several products span over 35 years from 1981; 2) the radiation products have the spatial resolution of 5km; 3) all products are spatially and temporally continuous with no data gaps and missing values.\nThis presentation will describe the GLASS products characteristics and some application examples for quantifying the climate effects of land cover changes, such as snow cover in North Hemisphere and the major land cover types over China.\nBio-sketch:\nProf. Shunlin Liang received his Ph.D. degree from Boston University. He is currently a Professor with the Department of Geographical Sciences, University of Maryland at College Park. His main research interests focus on estimation of land surface variables from satellite data, Earth’s energy balance, and assessment of environmental changes. \nHe has published over 330 SCI indexed journal papers. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the nine-volume “Comprehensive Remote Sensing” books (Elsevier, 2017). He also authored/edited other six books, four of which were translated into Chinese. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.\n\nHost: \nProf. Zhanqing Li, UMD, zli@atmos.umd.edu ( mailto:zli@atmos.umd.edu )\nWebex info: \nEvent number: 739 221 004\nEvent password: essic\n——————————————————-\nTo join the online event\n——————————————————-\n1. Click here to join the online event.\nOr copy and paste the following link to a browser: \nhttps://umd.webex.com/umd/onstage/g.php?MTID=ea4559c8dcd43a0d698643c626feb5b3e\n2.
