ESSIC’s Alek Petty and Linette Boisvert contributed to a recent National Snow and Ice Data Center web-site post, regarding a record decline in Artic sea ice levels during February 2016. The average ice extent was the lowest on satellite record for the month, with data suggesting that the February ice extent has decreased by 3 percent per decade since 1979.
