Boisvert Published 3 Papers in October; 2 with Fellow ESSIC Staff

ESSIC assistant research scientist Linette Boisvert recently published three papers in October. One journal published by the American Meteorological Society was co-written by ESSIC post-doctoral associate Alek Petty. Chafik Study on Decadal Oceanic Variability Published

Research Associate Leon Chafik was the lead author for a study published on October 21st in Geophysical Research Letters. The paper, written by leading climate change and variability scientists, connects the subpolar North Atlantic Ocean (SPNA) warming with the increased Arctic sea ice loss. The researchers found the SPNA ocean variability is necessary for tropical interactions between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Award-Winning Science Journalist Discusses Zika and Epidemics at UMD

International health epidemics have been a source of media coverage for decades. Laurie Garrett, an award-winning science journalist, author and Senior Fellow for Global Health at the Council on Foreign Relations, spoke to University of Maryland faculty, staff and students at a lecture on Oct. 17 about epidemics and global public health. Vintzileos Presents on Heat Extreme Forecasts

In early October, ESSIC assistant research scientist Augustin Vintzileos presented his recent research at the NOAA/Climate Prediction Center’s 41st Climate Diagnostics and Prediction Workshop at the University of Maine. ESSIC research professor and CICS-MD Director E. Hugo Berbery has been selected by the Argentine Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation as a recipient of  the agency’s  RAICES Award for International Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation. Smells good walking in. More geared for quickish eating like lunch and carry-out, given the small space. Had the "tofu satay" starter.
