ESSIC recently donated $5,000 per year to the University of Maryland Department of Geology to use towards student travel and awards. The Department will use these funds for student activities and to help defray the expenses of Geology undergraduate students who will be presenting their own research at national or international conferences. The first formal CICS Council of Fellows Meeting was held September 5 at ESSIC and involved discussion of opportunities and specific roles of the Council. ESSIC professors Ross Salawitch and Eugenia Kalnay met with two different groups of about 20 middle school students from the Higher Achievement Program, August 1, engaging in a question and answer session and conversation.
