Stream Nitrogen Composition Alters the Chemistry of Freshwater Ecosystems

Sujay Kaushal, ESSIC and Department of Geology Associate Professor, is a co-author on a new paper in Global Biogeochemical Cycles titled, “RH: Stream nitrogen composition Gradients of anthropogenic nutrient enrichment alter N composition and DOM stoichiometry in freshwater ecosystems”. Also credited on the paper is Shahan Haq, graduate student at the UMD Department of Geology.

James Farquhar Named Chair of UMD’s Department of Geology

Distinguished University Professor James Farquhar has been named the chair of the University of Maryland’s Department of Geology for five years, effective July 1, 2021. Farquhar holds a joint appointment at ESSIC and is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Farquhar succeeds Richard Walker, who served as department chair since 2016.
