Local eats: review of Ovo Simply Veggie
By: Maureen C. Cribb
Bottom line: Clean modern look, a decent vegetarian joint
If you're sick to death of SweetGreen salads, head down to Ovo. Pick your rice (white or brown) and pick a vegetable protein topping and a sauce ($7) – there's a mix-and-match menu posted inside … add a salad/soup/drink for a few bucks more. They have appetizers, too … chose the enoki fries and adored them. Big bunches of enoki in a light kinda tempura batter with a spicy mustard dipping sauce … YUM. Also sampled the vegetable&rice combo: choice of four vege (I had tofu, shiitake mushrooms, eggplant and corn) in a white garlic sauce, served over jasmine rice. It wasn't the most exciting taste experience – will have to try some other combo next time, one that has a bit more zip to it. They have a nice selection of green teas and a pretty water dispenser (one side with ice water, the other with lemon water). Croissants and other little bakery things from the Bread Corner in Rockville are also on hand for sale (the seaweed cheese croissant I tried was on the blah side).Service was friendly and helpful. Park across the street in the CVS lot or around the corner at the garage over Ledo's.
I wasn't blown away by the menu but it's a nice addition to downtown CPark and I'll be back (enoki fries … mmmmm). Forks … I'll give it 3 forks (of 5).
