On December 6, the NOAA Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Program Office announced that the “Unseen Heroes” award would go to the Central Data Processor (CDP) Reset Recovery Team. It was given “in recognition of efforts to restore the Suomi-National Polar-Orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) satellite instruments after a central data processor reset.” This was a major effort in collaboration between the JPSS SDR teams and OSPO to recover the SNPP satellite after the instrument entered “Sun-pointing mode,” leading all of the onboard JPSS instruments to go offline and require restarting and revalidation. ESSIC/CISESS Scientist Fangfang Yu (STAR/SMCD/SCDAB) has a new article in the Journal of Applied Remote Sensing, co-written with Hyelim Yoo, Haifeng Qian, and Xi Shao. The paper describes the radiometric calibration of the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) Infrared (IR) channels on GOES-16.
ESSIC/CISESS Scientists Xin Jing, Xi Shao, Tung-Chang Liu and Bin Zhang (STAR/SOCD) have a new article in the July 2021 issue of Atmosphere titled “Comparison of GRUAN RS92 and RS41 Radiosonde Temperature Biases”.
ESSIC/CISESS Scientists Xi Shao, Sirish Uprety and Wen-hui Wang are contributors to a new book, Remote Sensing of Night-time Light, to be released on August 10th. Their chapter is on the assessment of straylight correction performance for the JPSS Visible/Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) day/night band using Dome-C and Greenland under lunar illumination. This book captures key methodological issues associated with pre-processing night-time light data, documents state of the art analysis methods, and explores a wide range of applications.
ESSIC/CISESS Scientists Zhipeng Wang, Fangfang Yu, Hyelim Yoo, Haifeng Qian and Xi Shao have been honored with a SPIE Journal of Applied Remote Sensing 2020 Best Papers Award for their article, “On-orbit calibration and characterization of GOES-17 ABI IR bands under dynamic thermal conditions”.
