Liqing Jiang Talks a Changing Ocean for a FIRST LEGO League Team

On October 6, 2024, Dr. Liqing Jiang presented “A Changing Ocean Under Climate Change Background” to students at Howard College Community College. The audience, including the members and the coach of the Advanced Robotics Team (A.R.T), showed intense interest in Jiang’s talk. A.R.T is the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Maryland State Championship of 2024, and they will represent Maryland at the FLL World Championship.

 

FLL guides youth in STEM learning and exploration through inspiring generations of global citizens and helping them realize their power to build a better future. The 2025 FLL competition theme is “SUBMERGED”, which encourages students to explore the layers of the ocean. Liqing discussed basic ocean knowledge and the open science challenges in the ocean field.

 

Liqing is an ESSIC Associate Research Scientist currently working under cooperative agreement for NOAA- National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). He is an oceanographer specializing in the study of inorganic carbon cycling and ocean acidification, with particular emphasis on data management, quality control, synthesis, and the development of global and coastal oceanographic data products.
