Zou publishes article on weather modeling

ESSIC research professor Xiaolei Zou has a new article published with IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing. Kenney quoted about tracking the changing climate in the Christian Science Monitor

ESSIC associate research professor Melissa Kenney was an interview subject in a recent Christian Science Monitor article about the challenges of communicating climate change news to the public. Brown facilitates meeting for Fisheries Monitoring Workgroup

ESSIC visiting research scientist Christopher Brown recently led the Fisheries Monitoring Workgroup (FMW) at the NOAA Northern Gulf Cooperative Institute at Mississippi State. Vintzileos spends 10 days in Tunisia on invited visit to government agencies

ESSIC assistant research scientist Augustin Vintzileos recently visited the Tunisian Department of Agriculture for 10 days where he worked on climate applications. Vintzileos trained personnel and students at the Tunisian National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology on reforecasts and led a seminar on the global subseasonal excessive heat outlook system. Smail helps coordinate workshop to address excess seaweed and oil spill challenges

In recent years, the Caribbean region has faced challenges from oil spills and an influx of floating sargassum seaweed. Experts from United Nations entities, academia, governments, private companies and international initiatives met at the Ministry of Education in Mexico City in early May to discuss the development of a region-wide system for monitoring and forecasting oil spills and sargassum. Beaudoing part of new NASA freshwater study

ESSIC faculty specialist Hiroko Beaudoing is a co-author of a newly published NASA-led satellite study that reveals significant changes to freshwater resources across the planet. The researchers discovered that wet areas are accumulating more water while dry areas are doing the opposite. The study utilizes 14 years of research data from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), as well as other satellite observations, irrigation maps and published reports on human activity.  …
