Farrell co-authors review of satellite observations of Antarctica

ESSIC / CICS-MD associate research scientist Sinéad Farrell is the co-author of a new study in Nature evaluating Antarctica’s changing ice structure. Farrell, in a collaboration with scientists from the University of Leeds and the University of California, San Diego, looked at satellite data to determine how changes in the ice sheet are raising the sea level. ESSIC research professor Xiaolei Zou has a new article published with IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing. It focuses on the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) on the GOES-R/GOES-16 satellite launched in November 2016 and how its technology improves aspects of 24-hour forecasts, such as for low rain amounts….

ESSIC assistant research scientist Jifu Yin has a new article published in the May issue of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters about incorporating data from the Soil Moisture Active/Passive (SMAP) satellite into the NCEP Global Forecast System. Vintzileos spends 10 days in Tunisia on invited visit to government agencies

ESSIC assistant research scientist Augustin Vintzileos recently visited the Tunisian Department of Agriculture for 10 days where he worked on climate applications. Vintzileos trained personnel and students at the Tunisian National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology on reforecasts and led a seminar on the global subseasonal excessive heat outlook system.
