Congratulations to Isaac Moradi, named the 2024 recipient of the CMNS Distinguished Research Scientist Award!
Moradi joined Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC), University of Maryland in 2011. His research is focused on microwave and radar remote sensing including, developing radiative transfer models, assimilation of radar and all-weather microwave observations in the NWP models, Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSE), improving the predictions of tropical cyclones, calibration and validation of satellite microwave observations, and instrument development.
He is affiliated with NASA Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) and NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). He also serves on the AMS Radio Frequency Allocation Committee and the AMS Forecast Improvement Group (FIG). Aside from his research efforts, Moradi is active in the UMD community. He serves on the University Senate, Campus AEP Committee, and UMD Research Council.
Moradi was nominated for the award by a colleague who was impressed with his incredibly hard work. In recognition of this award, he will receive a cash prize and a plaque.
Moradi will be recognized at the CMNS Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 19 at 3 PM in the Physical Sciences Complex.
