The National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) climatology team, which includes ESSIC Assistant Research Scientist Alexey Mishonov, recently released an updated version of the Northwest Atlantic Regional Climatology (NARC). The climatology is a detailed reference which, according to the NCEI website, “provide[s] an improved oceanographic foundation and reference for multi-disciplinary studies of The Northwest Atlantic.”
The update enabled the climatology to have 0.1×0.1 degree resolution for annual, seasonal, and monthly temperature and salinity fields, making it the first fine-resolution and vigorously quality controlled climatology with that feature. The “more info” section has also been expanded and is now home to a more detailed description as well as a disclaimer regarding the use of fine-resolution monthly fields in mission critical applications.
