ESSIC scientists Chelsea Parker and Veljko Petković were honored at the 2024 Maryland Research Excellence Celebration for their “for their demonstrable elevation of the visibility and reputation of the University of Maryland Research Enterprise.”
Parker is an Assistant Research Scientist at ESSIC and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. She received her BSc from the University of Bristol, UK and her MS and PhD from Brown University. Parker works on characterizing and understanding sea ice – ocean – atmosphere interactions in a changing climate. Her research focuses on improving our understanding of the polar atmosphere and extreme weather events and the representation of these in models.
Petković is an Associate Research Scientist at ESSIC. He joined the university in 2017 after graduating at the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University. His research interests are in hydrology, atmospheric radiative transfer, and microwave remote sensing, with focus on satellite retrievals, cloud microphysical processes and their interactions with a large-scale environment.
Congratulations Chelsea and Veljko!
