Bo-Wen Shen gave a project demonstration entitled “Recent Advances in Global Hurricane Modeling after Katrina” at the Supercomputing Conference 2010 (SC10), held in New Orleans, LA, November 13-18. The demonstration integrated NASA’s high-resolution global model and concurrent visualization techniques on the Pleiades supercomputer to produce high-resolution simulations that improve our understanding of mesoscale predictability for tropical cyclones (TCs), and to extend the lead time of predicting TCs by the interactions of (for example) different kinds of large-scale tropical waves.
