Nicely Earns Grant to Improve Air Quality Models

ESSIC Assistant Research Scientist Julie Nicely is principal investigator on a project, titled “A Diagnostic Package to Facilitate and Enhance Chemical Mechanism Implementations Within Regional and Global Atmospheric Chemistry Models”, that just earned an EPA Science to Achieve Results (STAR) grant for Chemical Mechanisms to Address New Challenges in Air Quality Modeling.

Farquhar Named 2020 UMD Distinguished University Professor

Professor James Farquhar of the University of Maryland (UMD) Department of Geology and the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) has been named a 2020 UMD Distinguished University Professor. The title of Distinguished University Professor is the highest academic honor bestowed by the university. Considered a national achievement, this award given to just 7% of tenured faculty honors impact and significant contribution to the nominee’s field, knowledge, profession, and/or practice.

On Oct. 26th, the CISESS Lightning Team— ESSIC/CISESS scientists Mason Quick, Jonathan Wynn Smith, and Daile Zhang— went to the Mid-Atlantic ChaserCon in Richmond, Virginia.  The conference was a forum for National Weather Service meteorologists, broadcast meteorologists, storm chasers and other professional and amateur meteorologists across the Mid-Atlantic area to network and discuss local severe storms. Farquhar Named AGU Fellow

Professor James Farquhar of the University of Maryland (UMD) Department of Geology and the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) has been named a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
