AOSC Adds Undergraduate Major

The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science at the University of Maryland recently announced the addition of a new undergraduate major to its curriculum.

The focus of this major is on studies in meteorology, oceanography, climate and air pollution.  Prospective students must take several required classes from these disciplines, including those pertaining to the atmosphere and the ocean, as well as several labs, seminars and research classes.

Arkin and Smith co-presented climate data in Vancouver

Phil Arkin and Tom Smith co-organized and gave invited presentations in the Mini-symposium on “Mathematics and Statistics in Climate Data Reconstruction and Uncertainty Estimation,” Vancouver, BC the week of July 18th, 2011. Berbery Appointed Associate Director for CICS-MD

Hugo Berbery has accepted the position of Associate Director for CICS-MD, the UMD component of the Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites.
