Performance artist to instruct university researchers on communication

ESSIC / Geology professor James Farquhar is one of nine participants of a university sponsored pilot program seeking to improve campus researchers’ communication techniques. Leslie Felbain, the director of the MFA in Performance program in Maryland’s School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies will lead the program. AOSC undergrad awarded Hollings Scholarship

Sophomore atmospheric and oceanic science major Michael Natoli was one of two University of Maryland undergraduate students to receive NOAA’s Earnest F. Hollings Scholarship for 2014.  The goal of the NOAA-sponsored  program is to increase student training, environmental literacy, and future recruitment and job acquisition in atmospheric and oceanic science. Maryland alumnus honored by White House

University of Maryland alumnus Dr. Scott Weaver, received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) at an April 14 White House ceremony. Weaver, a research meteorologist at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, was one of 102 to win the award this year. According to the White House, the award is the “highest honor bestowed by the United States government on young professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers.”   Weaver’s research …

Physics undergraduate and Faculty Research Assistant, Ms. Julia Ruth, received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship in April 2014. The NSF received more than 14,000 applications for the 2014 competition and made 2,000 fellowship award offers that recognize outstanding graduate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
