Tony Busalacchi was extensively quoted and/or mentioned in the media on the recent National Research Council report “National Security Implications of Climate Change for U.S. Naval Forces” published on March 10. The report identified 3 key challenges to naval operations: (1) major reductions in Arctic sea ice will mean new shipping, oil and gas exploration and other opportunities in the region, (2) expected increases in extreme temperatures, storms and flooding around the globe mean the Navy must prepare for more frequent humanitarian missions and (3) that sea level rise could have significant and expensive impacts on seaside naval bases and facilities. Media coverage included ABC News, The New York Times, Sustainable Business, Aviation Week, Federal News Radio, The Guardian, Science Newsline, Navy News Service, MSNBC and New Scientist.
