Ning Zeng with research associate Jay Gregg (2009 Ph.D. Geography), traveled to King George Island, Antarctica in an activity related to the International Polar Years. They studied ancient carbon that was once buried under ice, and is now decomposing and going into the atmosphere as CO2 as glaciers retreat. Such processes have been hypothesized to be a ‘missing link’ in the glacial-interglacial cycles, and may also have implication for future climate change….
