The Geophysical Research Letters Journal published a paper by ESSIC Associate Research Scientist, Dr. Bo-Wen Shen. The paper entitled, “Genesis of hurricane sandy (2012) simulated with a global mesoscale model” was published in full online on Sept. 19. ESSIC hosted a National Academy of Science’s Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (BASC) workshop on sea ice loss and weather patterns this month. The 2-day event entitled “Linkages between Arctic Sea Ice Loss and Mid-Latitude Weather Patterns,” focused on bringing together experts in the field to discuss the issue of rising global temperatures and sea ice loss and how the effects correlate to changing weather patterns across the densely populated region of the northern mid-latitudes. …
