Satellites Fill in Radar Gaps in Snowstorm

Some western and central states experienced a strong winter storm on March 13-15. The experimental satellite-radar merged snowfall rate product (mSFR) previously covered in ESSIC News demonstrated how satellites could fill in radar gaps in regions with limited or no radar coverage.

ESSIC Recognizes Distinguished Faculty and Staff

As a now traditional part of the ESSIC end-of-year Holiday Party, two annual peer awards were presented to honor the year’s Best Paper and the Employee of the Year. Laviola and You Are Guest Editors of a Special Issue of MDPI Remote Sensing

ESSIC/CISESS Assistant Research Scientist Yalei You and Sante Laviola, a researcher at The Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (CNR-ISAC) in Bologna, Italy, are guest editors of a special issue of Remote Sensing titled “Satellite Microwave Remote Sensing for Severe Storms Detection”. Laviola has previously spent a year with ESSIC/CISESS as a visiting scientist.

ESSIC/CICS Scientists Travel to Italy for Satellite Observation Meeting

Last week was the annual meeting of the Global Space-based Inter-Calibration System (GSICS), an international collaborative effort to monitor, improve, and harmonize observations from the Global Observing System weather and environmental satellites.
