ESSIC scientist Justin Pflug recently participated in the AskScience “Ask Me Anything” series, a Reddit project hosted by University of Maryland’s College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS). The project encourages the public to ask the scientists questions about anything, which the scientist then answers in a two hour sprint.

In the thread, Pflug answered questions about avalanche forecasting, remote sensing snow cover, and even the then-upcoming Mid-Atlantic snowstorm. Though Pflug is no longer answering questions, the Reddit thread remains publicly available for viewing.

Justin Pflug is an Associate Research Scientist with the University of Maryland Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) and the Hydrological Sciences Laboratory at NASA Goddard. Before joining Goddard in 2022, Justin earned his Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Washington in 2021 and was a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES). Justin works with the Land Information System (LIS) team, where his research focuses on modeling and remote sensing snow water resources.
