NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) has released the Northeast Pacific (NEP) Regional Climatology, Version 2. ESSIC scientist Alexey Mishonov is first author on the database.
Built from the newly published World Ocean Database 2023, the updated climatology spans 1955 to 2022 and provides high-resolution temperature and salinity fields for the region. The new dataset offers researchers improved tools to track decadal ocean climate change in one of the world’s most productive marine ecosystems. The Northeast Pacific is home to the California Current System and a major coastal upwelling zone, both vital for fisheries, coastal economies, and understanding climate impacts.
Mishonov is a researcher with extensive experience in various fields of oceanography, including ocean color, water transmissivity and particulate organic carbon study, oceanographic data management, analysis, and climate research.
The NEP Regional Climatology version 2 is freely available through NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).
