Congratulations to ESSIC/AOSC Professor Zhanqing Li doctoral-advised student Tianning Su, who has recently earned the Charles A. Caramello Distinguished Dissertation Award!
The Charles A. Caramello Distinguished Dissertation Award is a prestigious award, with only 4 given across UMD and only 1 in CMNS. This is the first time an AOSC student has received this rare honor.
The Charles A. Caramello Distinguished Dissertation Award recognizes original work that makes an unusually significant contribution to the discipline. The College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences nominated Su’s dissertation, “Remote Sensing of Aerosol and the Planetary Boundary Layer,” for this year’s competition. The multi-disciplinary campus committee, chaired by Professor Patricia Alexander from the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology, selected Su’s dissertation as a winner in the disciplinary area of Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Engineering. The Prize carries with it an honorarium of $1,000.
Tianning Su is a doctoral student under the guidance of Prof. Zhanqing Li. His research interests include remote sensing techniques and the interaction between aerosols and boundary layer.
