ESSIC Senior Research Scientist Phil Arkin, along with Associate Research Scientist Guojun Gu, presented talks at the 6th International CLIVAR Climate of the 20th Century Workshop in Melbourne, Australia.
The CLIVAR International Climate of the 20th Century Project uses climate models forced with observed time-varying sea surface temperatures to understand observed twentieth century climate variability, climate change and seasonal to decadal predictability.
Arkin, who also served as chair of the day-2 Precipitation and Variations session, presented a talk entitled, "Centennial-scale Changes in Large-Scale Precipitation in Observations and Models."
Gu's, who spoke during the Arkin-chaired session, presented a talk entitled, "Global Precipitation Change and Long-Term Climate Variability during the 1900-2010 Period."
The International Climate of the 20th Century Project is jointly led by COLA and the Hadley Centre and currently brings together over 25 international modelling groups.
